Professor Bertil Lindahl, head of UCR, and professor Lars Lind, study manager for EpiHealth, has together with several other European researchers participated in an application: EU FP7 consortium BestAgeing. The European Union has now approved the application.
The duration of the project is 3 years and will be coordinated from Heidelberg. The aim is to identify new cardiovascular biomarkers for elderly. |

The number of hip fractures has almost quadrupled in Sweden, from 5000 per year in the 1950s to today's 18 000. The trend is similar in Norway. Is it long femurs or the fact that we are moving less and less that is the cause of this trend? And what role does vitamin D supplements and immense coffee drinking play?
At an international research conference at Stockholm International Fair on May 19-23 the latest findings on heredity importance and measures to reduce the risk of fractures will presented.
Karl Michaëlsson, researcher at UCR, is head of the Swedish Organizing Committee for this conference. Östen Ljunggren is also a representative in this committee.
